Girl who thinks she’s Madeleine McCann getting ‘mystery calls’ asking her to go to Portugal

A woman who thinks she could be Madeleine McCann is apparently being phoned by a mystery caller who is asking her to go to Portugal.

Julia Wandelt has been making headlines around the world after posting on social media claiming that she thinks she could be Madeleine, who disappeared in May 2007 in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz.

The 21-year-old from Poland claims to have a freckle on her leg and a speck in her eye in the same places as the British girl, as well as looking similar to parents Kate and Gerry.

She started an Instagram profile, which quickly amassed over a million followers, before being deactivated. It consisted of dozens of posts she thought acted as proof.

Julia is currently living in a ‘safe house’ in California with private investigator Dr Fia Johansson, who is investigating her claim.

Fia has worked with US police on missing persons cases in the past and has been helping Julia undertake DNA tests.

According to Fia, Julia has been receiving a series of ominous phone calls trying to lure her to Portugal, which she says are being investigated by police in California.

Fia said that the woman caller wanted Julia to "fly away to Portugal".

She told RadarOnline: "She wanted her to fly to Portugal and be with her and saying that you should not be telling Fia Johansson that 'I did talk you about it, you have a passport, I can buy you the ticket and you can come to me, all you need is love'. She’s so mad that she couldn’t get Julia out of the safe house.

Julia added: “This woman said that she always wanted to have a child and that she could be my mother because I need love in (my) life, and this the only thing that I need love and caring – and she can give it."

Earlier this month, Fia confirmed Julia has taken a series of DNA and blood tests. The pair are currently awaiting the results, which will confirm or deny Julia's suspicions.

Madeleine was four years old when she disappeared from a holiday apartment while on holiday in Praia da Luz in Portugal in 2007.

Julia says she is 21 but believes her age could be wrong. Madeleine was born in May 2003, meaning that she would now be 19.

Mystery has surrounded the search for Madeleine in recent years but no trace of her has ever been found.

The parents of Madeleine, Kate and Gerry, have yet to comment on the recent updates of the saga.
