Girl who died in park over Easter weekend had 'problem with her pacemaker', says witness

A young girl died in a play park on Easter Sunday after experiencing a problem with her pacemaker, witnesses have claimed.

Emergency services raced to Clifton Park in Rotherham, South Yorkshire at around 4pm.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the child was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also sent to the scene, where a number of children had been playing at the time, and cordoned off the area.

One local told the Mirror: "The paramedics had 30 minutes to either get her pacemaker back into rhythm or get her to the hospital in a time of 30 minutes, but sadly it didn't start again."

Mothers in the park have also told of kids running over and shouting "it's her pacemaker" - a device which sends electrical pulses to the heart to keep it beating regularly.

One parent told MailOnline: "All I know is that everything was normal until I saw some kids run over to some adults.

"They shouted something like 'it's her pacemaker'. Then all hell broke loose and they started CPR."

The mum said she does not know the family involved, but that her heart goes out to the child's parents.

Another mum, who had been in the area, said: "I heard it was a problem with the kiddie's pacemaker and they were escorted to the hospital, but it was too late."

She said the children had been enjoying themselves in the park, but they knew something serious had happened once they saw police cars and an ambulance go past.

South Yorkshire Police said the child's death was not being treated as suspicious.

The force added that it will not be commenting further, as it's not a police matter.
