Girl walking on public towpath is sexually assaulted as police release CCTV image of man

Police have released images of a man they wish to speak to after a girl was sexually assaulted.

The young girl was walking along a public footpath when she was approached by a stranger and attacked in broad daylight.

Officers were called to reports of the young girl being sexually assaulted by a man at 4.30pm on Saturday in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

In a further appeal for information, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have released CCTV images of the man they wish to speak to.

The man was wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, black joggers and black trainers.

Insp Katherine Murray, of GMP, said: “We're releasing CCTV images of a man that we would like to speak to in connection with this incident.

Police said the man may be able to help with their enquiries into the assault (GMP)

"He may be able to help us with our enquiries and I would encourage anyone who thinks they may recognise him to get in touch with police as soon as you're able to.

“We understand that the CCTV images are not of the best quality but we're keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or were within the vicinity at the time and may have seen him."

The inspector also thanked the public for their assistance so far and asked anyone with information to contact police to help the investigation.

“We can be contacted on 101 quoting log 2413 of the 29/4/2023,” she added.

Officers will be in and around the area conducting highly visible patrols while the investigation continues.
