Girl 'ragged down street by hair' suffers 'car crash' injuries in gang attack

A schoolgirl made a desperate phone call to her mum moments before she was attacked by a group of girls.

The 12-year-old was on her way home near to Silcocks Park in Litherland on Monday, May 14, when she was subjected to the sickening assault which was filmed on a mobile phone. The victim's mum told the ECHO the attack was instigated by a girl who asked her daughter 'have you been chatting s*** about me?' before saying "I'm going to batter you."

The incident has been reported to Merseyside Police who are investigating.

The victim's mum, who did not want her or her daughter to be named, told the ECHO: "My daughter was on her way home with her friend. She always texts me when she's out and when she's going to be back."

The mum said she had not long spoken to her daughter, who asked if she could bring her friend home with her. She said: "She rang me a couple of minutes later panicking saying 'some girl said she's going to batter me.'

"I jumped straight in the car to pick her up. I was ringing and ringing her.

"She finally answers the phone and she is hysterical, she is screaming. I couldn't make out what she was saying. I heard 'she's battered me.'

"A woman came on the phone, you could hear her voice shaking. She said 'they've kicked her in the head, it's horrendous'."

A video, which has been shared widely online, shows the 12-year-old being kicked and punched in the head by a group of three girls as one of them holds her by the hair. A group of boys can be seen watching the incident unfold as people laugh in the background.

The 12-year-old was taken to Ormskirk Hospital where she underwent a series of X-rays to check for any fractures to her spine. She was also placed into a head and neck brace for a number of hours due to her injuries.

Her mum said: "The doctor said her neck injuries are that of someone that would have been in a car crash. They've pulled her head backwards and forwards to slam her into the pavement - that's why her neck is so painful.

"It's like having whiplash over and over again. The doctor said 'I know it doesn't feel like it but you're lucky the damage wasn't worse' after seeing the video."

The mum said her daughter's hair had "matted into one big ball" after she was "ragged down the street" by her hair. She added: "She's probably got half the amount of hair she had before because they've pulled that much hair out of her head.

"We think she's possibly got a broken nose. She's got to go back in 5-7 days to check because of the swelling. They don't do an X-ray for the nose.""

The girl's mum shared the video on Facebook in the hope of appealing for witnesses to come forward. She said: "I feel sick. I should be able to let my daughter go out and be with her friends because she is a good kid.

"I'm going to make sure that there's a new law in place if I have to. They can't go around kicking people in the head."
