A young girl has been indecently assaulted by a man who broke into her home in southern Western Australia early this morning.
Child Abuse Squad and detectives are investigating the alleged incident which happened in Katanning in WA's Great Southern region.
Police said sometime between 12:30am and 1:30am, a man broke into the Amherst Street home and indecently assaulted the young girl who was asleep in the property's loungeroom.
The offender fled the area on foot.
He is described as about 175 centimetres tall, slim build, dark complexion, brown hair and a beard.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darryl Noye said the young girl was asleep in the lounge room with other siblings when the incident occurred.
"It's quite a shocking thing to go through ... I'm sure the family are doing as best as they can," he said.
"I urge people to be more vigilant and secure their premises while police undertake this investigation."
Police want anyone with information relating to the incident or who has CCTV or a dash camera in the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
