A student went home without writing the SSLC examination after the school authorities insisted that she remove her hijab in Ilkal in Bagalkot district on Monday.
The girl’s brother brought her to the examination centre at the Government High School in Ilkal. The school authorities asked her to remove the headscarf before she entered the examination hall. But she refused.
Her brother tried to argue with the teachers. But they did not agree with him. The girl asked her brother to take her away and they left, the school authorities said.
Meanwhile, in Belagavi, BJP leader and MLA Anil Benake welcomed students who arrived at the Government Sardar High School for the exam in the morning.
The girls, who came to school in burkha, removed it before appearing for the exam in their school uniform, according to school authorities.
