Northern Territory police are investigating the death of a seven-year-old girl in remote Central Australia who sustained "serious head injuries" after allegedly falling from a moving vehicle.

Police allege that about 4pm on Sunday, the child was travelling with her father and "several other people" about 25km east of Harts Range when the incident took place.

"During the journey it is alleged she fell from the moving vehicle suffering serious head injuries," police said in a statement.

"The girl was conveyed to the Harts Range clinic and later medevac to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for Women and Children but later died from her injuries."

Detectives from NT Police's Major Crash Investigation Unit have travelled to the area to investigate.

Harts Range is a remote NT community roughly 215 km northeast of Alice Springs.
