Girl, 13, stages protest after 'sexist' teachers said her shorts 'distract' boys

A 13-year-old girl has made a stand against her school after being told her clothing is "distracting" the boys in her class. Her mum explained how "her little protester" and her friends wanted to call out her 'sexist' teachers by purposely breaking the school's dress code.

The seven graders wore shorts and tank tops to school knowing they'll be punished for it. The mum said on Reddit: "They staged a protest against the school's 'stricter on girls' dress code. They're upset that they were told by the administration that wearing those items 'are distracting to boys'. They feel maybe the boys should just work harder to pay attention to their school work and not put the blame on the girls."

As expected, the American students were all placed into detention - but this didn't stop them from trying to spread their message.

"I've offered to get an essay they choose to write in the local paper," said the mum. "The school rescinded the detention.

"Boys can wear tank tops and shorts - but the fashion trend for boys tend to be longer. I would argue that you cannot find girl shorts that are knee length - it is impossible to find.

"There is a difference between a dress code that is for standard reasons regardless of gender. This code is in place because 'it is distracting to boys'.

"They shouldn't be ashamed of their bodies. I was really proud of them for trying to do something. I thought it was pretty good for some seventh graders."

While the girls didn't manage to change the school dress code, they hope their point got through to their teachers.

Commenting on the girl's protest, one Reddit user said: "I'm proud of these young women standing up for themselves. It's a start."

Another user added: "The fact that the girls are getting punished for taking a stand together is bulls*** and just further reinforces the sexist message they are giving these children.

"As a parent, I would get together with other mothers and take your argument to the PTA, and inform the local news so a reporter can be there to record it if they try saying that the boys deserve special treatment again."

A third user said: "We did this when I was in high school. Everyone staged a walkout and didn't show up.

"When they wanted to know why we simply told them we wear what we want, when we want and how we want.

"You don't like it you don't have any students. They caved and we never had uniforms. You have to stand up to what you believe in or become another mindless, soulless sheeple."
