A 12-YEAR-OLD girl has been rescued and taken to hospital after falling down a waterfall in the Highlands.
Mountain rescue team members were called out to Steall Gorge near Fort William on Friday evening after the girl fell, hurting her arm.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Teams stretchered the 12-year-old using a rope system.
She was then transferred to Belford Hospital in Fort William with a suspected wrist and femur fracture.
The girl was later transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh.
A statement from Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said: “On Friday evening we were called out to an incident involving a 12-year-old child who had taken a significant tumbling fall on steep ground in Steall Gorge, Glen Nevis.
“With a suspected wrist and femur fracture, the team attended alongside colleagues from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“The team worked to stabilise and package the casualty whilst a rope system was used to extricate the stretcher back up to the path.
“Once at the path the casualty was carried to a waiting ambulance where they were transported to the Belford Hospital in Fort William before being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh, with some colleagues from the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service.
“As always, we’d like to wish the casualty all the very best with their recovery.”
