Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is delighted for Alfredo Morelos after his Colombia call-up - but admits the winter internationals are putting managers in sticky situations.
The Ibrox frontman has been lights out under the new guidance of GvB but now faces missing away games against Ross County and Celtic after a shock recall.
He's not the only one who could miss out with matches in every national association bar UEFA. James Sands may be summoned by the US national team, while Kemar Roofe could be called up by Jamaica.
And Joe Aribo's AFCON campaign with Nigeria means he's unavailable until the soaring Super Eagles are knocked out - which could be a while yet after topping their group with maximum points.
Van Bronckhorst said: "Alfredo has been in great form, he has shown great development since our arrival, I'm really happy for him and he deserves the international call-up.
"If you have international games during the league it always can create difficult situations.
"I know what the club means to both Joe and Alfredo but I also know how important it is to play for your international team."
While the pair may miss upcoming matches, Rangers and Van Bronckhorst have been given a boost with the return of two stars who have struggled with injury of late.
Though a call up for Roofe remains possible he's available for selection in the meantime after returning to fitness.
And Leon Balogun is also back with the manager confirming both will feature on Friday night against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup, though it still comes too soon for Ryan Jack.
Van Bronckhorst added: "No fresh injury concerns. Roofe will be involved tomorrow as will Leon Balogun, it is a little too early for Jack.
"Arfield trained a little bit today so will hopefully join next week along with Davis."
