Giovanni van Bronckhorst questions Europa League venue choice and makes Rangers fan numbers call

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST believes Rangers and Frankfurt could have sold out their Europa League venue eight times over ahead of their showdown in Seville.

The showpiece final will be staged at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium on Wednesday night as Rangers aim to follow in the footsteps of the Barcelona Bears and clinch a European trophy.

Both clubs have been allocated official allocations of just 9,500 tickets and it was confirmed on Friday that fans will be able to watch the action at the Estadio La Cartuja as tens of thousands descend on Andalusia.

Rangers have been backed in huge numbers at home and abroad once again this term and Van Bronckhorst is frustrated more supporters won’t be there in person to cheer on his side.

Van Bronckhorst said: “I think we could play in a stadium of 300,000 if necessary.

“I don’t know what the thinking is. Of course, I would love to have a bigger stadium because then more fans could watch the game.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s like they want to have a difference in all the competitions. You know, the Champions League has a big stadium in Paris now, the Europa League and Conference League has a smaller stadium.

“I think they want to keep the difference in level – that’s a question for UEFA. I really expect a great atmosphere with all the fans we’ve got.

“I played there before with Barcelona and also with Feyenoord in the Europa League. I think it’s going to be a very good atmosphere in this stadium.”
