Giovanni van Bronckhorst provides Kemar Roofe fitness update ahead of Rangers' Europa League shot at glory

Kemar Roofe holds his leg during a Scottish Cup Semi-Final between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST admits Kemar Roofe's fitness will be a 'close call' as he battles to win his selection race ahead of the Europa League final.

The striker hasn't featured for Rangers since the Scottish Cup victory over Celtic at Hampden last month and was absent from both legs of the last four win against RB Leipzig.

Roofe won't be fit enough to make the Light Blues squad for the Premiership finale against Hearts this weekend as Rangers round off their domestic campaign.

All eyes will then be fixed on Eintracht Frankfurt and the shot at glory in Seville as Van Bronckhorst aims to lead his side to Europa League success next Wednesday evening.

And the Ibrox boss will give Roofe every chance of making the final as he continue to push himself in an attempt to play his part on Rangers' biggest night in half a century.

Van Bronckhorst said: “He’s not training with the team at the moment, we are trying to get him on the pitch hopefully at the weekend but for him he is doing everything and I really admire his desire to be ready for the game on Wednesday.

"We’re pushing him hard but its one of those injuries where it is a close call and hopefully he can make some positive steps in the coming days.”
