Giovanni van Bronckhorst praises Rangers 'character' despite Champions League loss to Napoli

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST reckons Rangers showed their character despite slumping to a fifth successive Champions League defeat against Napoli.

The Light Blues sit rock bottom of Group A after Giovanni Simeone hit a first half brace and Leo Ostigard converted from a corner in the closing stages.

Van Bronckhorst's side now face Ajax in their final fixture next week but have a must-win Premiership clash with Aberdeen to contend with first and foremost this weekend.

Van Bronckhorst said: "A defeat is a defeat but the way we lost today, after two early goals in the first 15 minutes.

"I think we gave the goals too easily. Two times, it was two against one with our centre-backs and I think the movement of the striker is excellent to go into the zones to be dangerous.

"I think after that we reacted really well. We stayed in the game and could have scored for 2-1 just before half-time with Morleos. Also Malik had a chance to score.

"Second half, I think we showed character. We were well organised defensively and didn’t give any big chances away.

"We were creating a lot of chances to score the 2-1, two big chances for Morelos.

"In the end, you concede the third goal by set-piece but I think we can take a lot of positives from the game – although it’s a loss. A loss is still a loss."
