Giovanni van Bronckhorst in brutal Rangers 'weren't ready' confession after Celtic nightmare repeat

Giovanni van Bronckhorst says his side weren’t ready for Celtic’s rapid set pieces as his side were humbled 4-0 in the Old Firm derby.

The Rangers boss was “very disappointed” with the manner of his sides devastating loss away to their arch Glasgow rivals as Ange Postecoglou's side opened up a five point gap at the top of the Premiership.

A double from Liel Abada, a stunning chip from Jota coupled with a disastrous pass out from Jon McLaughlin to David Turnbull led to a damaging defeat for the Light Blues ahead of their Champions League trip to Ajax.

And van Bronckhorst felt like history was repeating itself after comparing the mauling to the previous 3-0 battering at Celtic Park in February. That night Abada was at it again as Celtic killed the game in the first 45. The Dutchman said his players knew the dangers of Celtic’s quick fire set pieces but were not ready.

Speaking to Sky Sport van Bronckhorst said: “(We are) very disappointed with the result, with the way we conceded the goals, it was a repeat of the last game we played in February, with a quickly taken throw in and a freekick. We knew that was one of their strengths and both times we weren’t ready.

"When you concede goals like that you make it more difficult for yourself so I’m disappointed with that."

Asked if he was frustrated by Rangers knowing quick set pieces and goals were coming, van Bronckhorst said: “Of course we prepared for these moments that they were able to be dangerous and we weren’t ready.

“That is very disappointing because you want to play a good game, of course you can have goals against you but not in this manner. That’s not the way we need to concede goals.

“The most important thing is we weren’t alert and that’s why you gave two goals away and the fourth goals as well. That is already three goals you could have avoided that’s what makes it easier to get a result.”
