Giovani Lo Celso on the verge of Tottenham exit as Villarreal set to seal transfer return

Giovani Lo Celso is on his way to Villarreal to clinch a loan move to the La Liga side, football.london understands. Allowed to depart Tottenham back in January with limited playing time under Antonio Conte, the Argentina international linked up with the Yellow Submarines and played a big role in their run to the Champions League semi-finals.

The 24-year-old is now set to re-sign for Unai Emery's team and football.london understands that his loan switch contains a break clause for Spurs in January to end the loan if they receive a bid from someone in that window and the player agrees to the move. Having returned to Tottenham in the summer for pre-season training, Lo Celso was one of four players left out of their plans for their four friendlies.

Joining Sergio Reguilon, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele on the sidelines, the quartet were absent for Tottenham's pre-season tour of South Korea and also didn't travel for the Rangers and Roma friendlies. Asked about the quartet ahead of the Roma match in Israel, Conte discussed the future of the four players.

"I think that we spoke with the club and the players are informed about the plans for the next season," said the 53-year-old. "We are talking about really good players and the club and I, we think they deserve to play games regularly. For this reason these players are not here."

Once his Villarreal loan move goes through, Lo Celso will have the chance to play regularly ahead of Argentina's World Cup campaign. The midfielder registered one goal and one assist in his 21 appearances for the Spanish side last term.
