Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic transfer exit state of play after domestic deadline shuts

Ange Postecoglou is still expecting a conclusion in the near future over Giorgos Giakoumakis' transfer exit from Celtic.

The striker, 28, is still set to depart the Parkhead club despite the domestic transfer window closing at midnight on February 1.

Giakoumakis is widely thought to be ready to move to the MLS with Atlanta United having previously been close to a J-League switch to Urawa Red Diamonds.

While Scottish clubs can no longer do any transfer incoming business - other than free agents - transfer windows in Japan and USA remain open.

It means there is no rush to force through a quick switch for Giakoumakis with Postecoglou having already bolstered his striking options ahead of a departure.

Giakoumakis' transfer exit has still not been finalised, but Postecoglou is still 'expecting a conclusion' in the near future.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, the Celtic boss said: "No, it's still not finalised.

"People will be aware that obviously the markets are looking at him under deadline pressure.

"I expect a conclusion but nothing is confirmed."

Celtic allowed both Moritz Jenz and Oliver Abildgaard to leave the club in January - and Postecoglou admitted "one or two" more could leave even if it's more unlikely with no room to sign any replacements.

He added: "Oliver Abildgaard is gone - obviously he's moved on and there might be one or two more.

"Again, less likely now that the window's shut.

"But from our perspective I think it's been a real positive window for us, in terms of what we tried to achieve through it, and the strategy we had.

"I think from now on we'll be settled."
