Atlanta United will need to get in the same financial ballpark as Urawa Red Diamonds if they are to prise Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis to the MLS.
The Japanese side are the club in pole position to land the Greek international £4 million deal. and the big-spending J-League outfit are close to agreeing a deal with Celtic. They have also offered the 28-year-old a double-your-money contract, which is also net, for the forward who netted the winner in Saturday's 2-0 Viaplay Cup semi-final against Kilmarnock to set up a final versus Rangers on February 26th
American club Atlanta - who have a close connection with Premiership side Aberdeen - will need to stump up a similar financial package if they are to tempt Giakoumakis to America over Asia. It looks likely though that the 28-year-old is set to leave Parkhead after talks over a fresh contract to keep him broke down.
Meanwhile, Southampton are continuing to monitor the situation of Celtic winger Liel Abada. The Israeli winger was watched by the English Premier League club at Hampden.
The Saints have also noticed that Abada has not had as regular game time in recent weeks. Celtic have indicated they want to open contract talks with Abada soon.
It's back to Premiership action this Wednesday for Celtic as they take on St Mirren at Parkhead. Renfrewshire rivals Morton then come to Glasgow's east end on Scottish Cup fourth round duty on Saturday.
