Giorgos Giakoumakis Celtic absence explained as Postecoglou confirms when he could return

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has addressed Giorgos Giakoumakis' absence from his matchday squad against Dundee United.

The Greek striker has started the season strongly and fans were left surprised when his name wasn't included on the teamsheet. Kyogo Furuhashi has scored a hat-trick already in Tayside and he has been joined in attack by Liel Abada and Jota against the Tangerines. Postecoglou has cleared any worries over anything serious surrounding Giakoumakis, insisting it's only illness picked up on Saturday that rules him out of this Celtic clash. He is likely to be fit in time for the Premier Sports Cup last 16 tie at Ross County on Wednesday.

The Parkhead boss said on Sky: "He wasn't feeling well yesterday so we just decided to leave him out for today. He should be right before Wednesday night's game. For Kyogo it's really important that he's gone into the season and gets a string of games and it's helped that he's playing extremely well."

Giakoumakis has been a hit for the Hoops since joining them from VVV-Venlo of the Netherlands last season.

So far this term the Greek international marksman has scored twice, having come off the bench in all four matches.

He will hope more starts fall his way with the derby against Rangers and a Champions League clash with Real Madrid to come in the next fortnight.
