Giorgos Giakoumakis brings Celtic tactics to MLS but Atlanta boss admits 'worry' he had in fast tracked debut

Atlanta United boss Gonzalo Pineda admits the high-octane tactics instilled in Giorgos Giakoumakis at Celtic have followed him across the pond.

After red tape issues held up his move to the MLS, the Greek forward made his debut for the Mercedes-Benz Stadium side in the early hours of Sunday morning in a 1-1 draw with Toronto United. His appearance from the bench impressed his new boss given he hasn't had much training time, but it was clear to him that Ange Postecoglou's high pressing methods have rubbed off on the former Premiership forward.

Pineda reckons it bodes well for his future after Celtic, even if he was worried about over-working him, saying: "Once Giakoumakis is fully incorporated into our system, and he gels with the others, we are going to have a very interesting final third product. I think it is very early to judge him, he has had one training session with the team. He had a flight on Thursday night.

"So I was actually worried that I was giving him more minutes than I expected for him. I know he is fit but the flight, the mental preparation.

"It worried me a little bit. But you can see that he is fully committed to running in the box, having second movements, counter-pressing, his energy attracts some action.

"His pressing is imposing and once he starts to gel he is going to be ok."
