Giorgos Giakoumakis belief gets Celtic vindication as former Rangers boss sees Ally McCoist comparison

Alex McLeish reckons Giorgos Giakoumakis will start for Celtic against Livingston on Sunday - and has what it takes to become a Parkhead legend.

The Greek hitman has had a slow start to life under Ange Postecoglou but hit form before being sidelined with illness.

He hit a hat-trick against Dundee to take his overall tally to seven in 19 games for Celtic.

He's missed their last two Premiership games as well and they have missed his presence up front with Daizen Maeda struggling to fill the void.

Giakoumakis is back in line to start against Livingston on Sunday though and having him back will be a major boost for Postecoglou.

Former Rangers boss McLeish thinks so anyway and he reckons the 27-year-old has the X-factor - comparing him to the likes of Ally McCoist and Frank McAvennie.

He told Football Insider : "Yeah, I could definitely see him starting. When he first came in, I saw a couple of things that made me think he looked a handful.

“His work for the goals he scored the other week was very good. He was getting into the right positions in the heart of the penalty box.

“When you’ve got a guy like that, you think of Ally McCoist, Frank McAvennie, the legends of the past.

“Now, I’m not saying he’s going to be the ‘next McAvennie’ or whatever, but he has good instincts in the box. You can’t coach that.”
