Gio van Bronckhorst serenaded by Celtic fans as gleeful Hoops adopt Rangers anthem to mock Dutchman

As if Gio van Bronckhorst didn’t have enough on his plate, Celtic fans piled on the misery as they adopted Rangers’ anthem to mock the Dutchman’s plight.

After sorry Gers needed a late James Tavernier penalty to rescue a point away to St Mirren in the Premiership ’s lunchtime kick-off, Ange Posetcoglou’s side had the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to nine points going into the World Cup break with a win over Ross County.

It looked like they might slip up though after Ross County were awarded a spot kick five minutes after half-time. Matt O’Riley’s attempted clearance cannoned back off a Staggies player and hit him on the arm. For the second week in a row, a high contentious penalty was awarded against the Hoops, this time David Munro pointing to the spot before VAr backed him up. David Cancola converted and it looked like Malky Mackay might have been doing van Bronckhorst a favour.

But Celtic are made of stern stuff and fought back to claim all three points. David Turnbull levelled things up before Sead Haksabanovic struck his third goal in three games this week to see the Hoops over the line and well clear at the top.

They'd take some catching even from a Rangers team in form. This one isn't though, and the Parkhead faithful are loving it.

And they celebrated by serenading van Bronckhorst on their way out of the stadium. Belting out his name to the tune of Carnival de Paris is usually the reserve of the blue half of Glasgow.

They are reluctant to sing the Dutchman’s praises though, with a growing number demanding a change in the dugout. Their rivals are happy to take on the mantle for now though, gleefully chanting as their team pulls further away towards the title.
