Gio van Bronckhorst senses Rangers 'confidence' shift as he offers Leon Balogun injury update

Delighted Gio van Bronckhorst insists confidence is growing at Rangers after a comfortable night against Hibs.

James Tavernier's spot kick and Alfredo Morelos second half strike was enough to seal the three points at keep pace with Premiership leaders Celtic.

Following the win over Shaun Maloney's side and the rout of the Hearts on Sunday, the Ibrox boss reckons there has been a momentum shift since the heavy defeat at the hands of Celtic.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: "The overall performance was really good.

"2-0, but we created a lot of chances. We could have scored more but the overall performance was really good for us, because we needed the points."

When asked about picking up the side with back-to-back wins following defeat at Celtic Park, he said: "It gives you confidence.

"We had to react last Sunday, and it was good to continue that way of playing. The intensity we want to have in games.

"We have to keep our standards for every game and this is what we want for every game.

"I think the threat we had from both sides pleased me.

"(The clean sheet) It's important for the defence. Our foundation is to keep the zero, because we know we are going to create chances.

"But we are really pleased for Allan and the defence overall to keep the clean sheet."

The one sour note for the Rangers boss was that Leon Balogun limped off in the first half.

The centre-back has only just returned from a spell on the sidelines, but had to be replaced by Borna Barisic in the first half.

On the injury, the Dutchman added: "I don't know exactly what the injury is but he couldn't continue. We have to assess him tomorrow and see what he has.

"For him it's been a difficult time, through injury, and he just came back but hopefully for him it's not that serious, but we have to wait and see."
