Gio van Bronckhorst's Rangers style in contrast to Angeball as Celtic pace leaves Light Blues chasing

Celtic have left Rangers in the dust when it comes to a key stat in their respective Champions League campaigns.

It's been a disappointing stint at the elite table of European football for both Glasgow clubs. Ange Postecoglou's Hoops have won plaudits for their style of play but a lack of cutting edge has them finishing bottom of Group F behind Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk, with the latter where Celtic picked up two points with draws.

Rangers meanwhile have picked up an unwanted of being the 'worst-ever' side in the competition's history after coming last in Group A after scoring twice with 22 conceded against Napoli, Liverpool and Ajax. Stats from Opta have provided a peek at Team Style's, with the metrics based off direct speed upfield (m/s) and passes per sequence. It's the Light Blues who have been left to rue a slow style of play in Europe.

Their direct speed of just under 1.0 only beats Ajax's score of near 0.8 while passes per sequence come in at 3, which suggests a slow but direct approach from manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

'Angeball' meanwhile has lived up to its billing as they rank around the 1.6 on the direct speed chart, but with just one more pass in their average sequences compared to Rangers.

RB Salzburg are the most direct club in the competition with two passes and their speed of above 2.0 shows they move up the pitch with purpose too.

For the Premiership's big rivals, attentions now turn to domestic football once more, where Celtic will look to keep the Light Blues at an arm's length, currently four points behind in the title race.
