Gio van Bronckhorst reveals Rangers team talk that inspired Scottish Cup win as he hails resilience of Hampden heroes

Gio van Bronckhorst warned his Rangers stars they hadn't won anything yet to inspire them to Scottish Cup glory.

The Ibrox side suffered the blow of all blows on Wednesday night when they lost the Europa League Final on penalties to Eintracht Frankfurt.

It meant they went into Saturday's Final with Hearts yet to win a trophy this season, having relinquished the Premiership crown to Celtic.

They had to dig deep at Hampden but won it in 120 minutes with Ryan Jack and Scott Wright striking in extra-time.

And a relieved Van Bronckhorst couldn't be happier to see his players end a long and difficult week with some silverware.

He told Premier Sports: "It means a lot. I told the players before the game we haven't won anything yet, we've worked so hard and come so far but in the end, you want to have something in your hands.

"It's always good to end the season with a trophy. It's positive, we work really hard and we looked much stronger in extra-time.

"We deserved the win today.

"I am very impressed and proud of them because it's been a really demanding week with the Europa League Final, yesterday with the farewell of Jimmy and today of course.

"We had pressure to get the trophy and in the end we did."

Van Bronckhorst subbed on Allan McGregor late on in what could be the veteran keeper's final appearance in a Rangers shirt.

But he wouldn't be drawn on whether his gesture was a goodbye to the 40-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

He added: "I don't know. We'll have to see but I was happy we could put him on."
