Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits talks with the Rangers board are inevitable after they dropped points yet again during a 1-1 draw away at St Mirren. But he insists he has no fear over his future.
The Ibrox side could be nine points behind Celtic at the top of the table should Ange Postecoglou's side beat Ross County at home this afternoon. Van Bronckhorst was already under pressure following a nightmare Champions League campaign and last Sunday's 1-2 loss to St Johnstone. A nervy midweek win over Hearts eased it a touch, but he's right back in the firing line after another under par performance in Paisley.
Jonah Ayunga's opener two minutes after half-time saw the Light Blues fall behind in a game for the fourth time in their last five. James Tavernier 's penalty squared things up with six minutes to go, although only following a VAR check after Kevin Clancy had initially booked Ryan Kent for diving when he went down under Marcus Fraser's challenge.
The visitors never really threatened to snatch a winner, however. With five weeks until their next competitive fixture, there's little van Bronckhorst can do but wait until showdown talks with club powerbrokers take place., although may already have made up their minds.
"I don't know," van Bronckhorst initially said when asked if he'd be discussing his future with the board, before adding: "Of course we're going to sit down that's for sure and speak about the last couple of months and which way to go forward."
Asked if he feared for his job, van Bronckhorst told Sky Sports: "I have no fear. I never have fear. I just see what comes but I don't have fear. It's a five week break before the next game. That's time to reflect, rest and recover and we have two weeks to recover for the first game against Hibs.
"If we keep dropping points, I'm accountable for that. That comes with the job. Of course I give the players instructions. That's my job so we prepare the players as best as we can. They have to put in the performance and that's always the case."
Midfielder Glen Kamara appeared to storm up the tunnel after being subbed off, with van Bronckhorst motioning for him to come back and sit on the bench. But the Dutchman was keen to play down the incident. He explained: "No issues. I had to substitute him because the team needed a change. It started with more runs from midfield in the right positions. That's all I have to say about him."
