Gio van Bronckhorst receives Celtic 'praise' as Hoops fans adopt Rangers chant at Parkhead

Celtic fans have given Giovanni van Bronckhorst a backhanded compliment - by chanting the Rangers manager's name.

The Hoops headed into their match with Ross County on Saturday buoyed by a 1-1 draw between St Mirren and their Premiership title rivals at lunchtime. Despite David Cancola putting the Staggies ahead, David Turnbull and Sead Haksabanovic fired back to ensure a 2-1 victory for Ange Postecoglou's men, putting them nine points clear at the top of the league.

It puts Celtic in a commanding position to win the title once more and social media footage has emerged of several fans joining in to serenade the Rangers manager. Belting out van Bronckhorst's name to the tune of Carnival de Paris is usually done by the blue half of Glasgow but Hoops supporters used it to gloat in the wake of their rivals dropping more points, having lost to St Johnstone in Perth last weekend.

Van Bronckhorst admits the current run of form Rangers is partly down to missed chances, winning two of their last five domestic matches.

He told club media: "It's disappointing to drop points. We concede the goal and it's too easy for us. We tried to come into the game

"We scored the penalty and had one or two big chances. We don't score enough with the chances we have and it damages a lot."
