Alan Hutton reckons Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Rangers sacking was 'inevitable' despite feeling sorry for the Dutchman in a way.
The Light Blues called time on his leadership at Ibrox after just over a year in the job with a poor run of results and performances leaving them trailing Celtic and Ange Postecoglou by nine points going into the World Cup shutdown while the Champions League return ended in disaster with six defeats from six and the tag of the 'worst ever' group stage team.
Last season was a different story with Rangers claiming some big scalps including RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund in a Europa League run that took them all the way to the final before a heartbreaking defeat to Frankfurt on penalties. They also lifted the Scottish Cup with victory over Hearts at Hampden. However, when in charge of the big two the pressure is on to win consistently and with this in mind, Hutton was not surprised with the big breaking news coming out of Ibrox on Monday.

He told Football Insider: “I wasn’t surprised if I’m honest.
“The results and performances haven’t been good enough.
“I feel sorry for him in a way, because we won the Scottish Cup and got to the Europa League Final.
“But when you’re a Rangers player or manager you are under pressure to win consistently, and we’ve not done that this season.
“Celtic are nine points ahead, so I think that decision was inevitable in the end.”
