Gino D'Acampo suffers 'awkward' Phillip Schofield moment on Family Fortunes as viewers say 'oh dear'

Family Fortunes viewers couldn't help but comment when Gino D'Acampo suffered an 'awkward' moment on the pre-recorded programme. Those tuning in to the quiz show on Sunday night (May 21) were left squirming when - in a poorly timed question about This Morning - former host Phillip Schofield was one of the answers.

Phillip sensationally quit This Morning after 20 years. The presenter said in a statement that the programme had "become the story" and that he wanted to "do what I can to protect the show that I love" after rumours of a behind the scenes 'rift' with co-host Holly Willoughby became rife.

Having already presented his last episode on Thursday, May 18, Phillip said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love."

The 61-year-old added: "So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers - and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

And just over 24 hours later, in some seriously awkward timing, the ITV game show Family Fortunes, hosted by This Morning chef Gino, asked contestants to name the hosts of the ITV daytime show, This Morning.

The answer saw Phillip Schofield being the second-highest answer with 25 points, and earned one of the players a spot prize, while Holly came out top with 31 points. But viewers were quick to point out that the answer was out of date and couldn't have come at a more unfortunate time.

TV Critic Scott Bryan took to Twitter and wrote: “Oh god #FamilyFortunes on ITV just had the question ‘Name somebody who regularly appears on the TV show This Morning’. The top answers were Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

He went on to add: "It appears to be just a weird coincidence (weird that ITV didn’t change the episode, though.) Reminds me of this amazing coincidence on Pointless the same day Liz Truss stood down as PM."

@TraylorHolmes tweeted: "Well this is an awkwardly timed question: Name someone who appears on This Morning #FamilyFortunes #ThisMorning." @tvukzone commented: "Question on #FamilyFortunes right now: 'Name somebody who regularly appears on the TV show This Morning' ITV couldn't have chosen a better weekend to air this episode if they tried! #ThisMorning."

@YvonneBolouri typed: "Who would you expect to see on This Morning? Top answer Holly Willoughby Then Phillip Scofield. Tonight’s Family Fortunes. Oh dear. Guess it’s not live then." @BadSanta6996 asked: "ITV forget this one was airing? #familyfortunes." @hayleyjaneisme remarked: "Well things change eh.....#FamilyFortunes Slightly awkward."

@RyanJL said: "The timing of this is stunning #FamilyFortunes." @spunkster69 shared: "I get a feeling someone is going to be hauled over the coals for this in the morning at ITV." @nlygo added: "When life catches up with you fast... unless you are the scheduler at ITV."

ITV has confirmed that Holly will “remain on This Morning” and will continue to "co-present with members of the This Morning family". However, she is due to take an extra week's leave from the show and won't be back on screen until June 5.
