Gino D'Acampo's rarely seen family and how son caused awkward clash with Gordon Ramsay

Gino D'Acampo is the charming Italian chef who leaves us in fits of giggles - but he's also a loving husband and doting father.

We're used to seeing the cheeky TV cook awkwardly mispronouncing words on this morning or clashing with Gordon Ramsay on one of their road trips.

But what the cameras don't see is Gino's life at home with his wife of over three decades and their three children.

So fans will be keen to watch tonight's new ITV show, Gino and Family's Italian Adventure, where we will get a glimpse into his life off-screen.

Gino wants his British born and bred bambinos to discover their Italian roots and where his passion for food began and takes them on a journey from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia to his crazy hometown in Naples.

It might also get a bit tense at times as Gino's in-laws are also joining them for the ride - with the Italian hunk having been with wife Jessica Stellina Morrison since has was 19.

The childhood sweethearts met as teenagers in 1995 when they both worked in Sylvester Stallone's Mambo King restaurant in Marbella.

The restaurant was Gino’s first job as head chef and Jessica was employed there as a waitress - and was the setting for romance.

"I went to pick up a piece of meat and she picked up a piece of butter – it was a recipe at first sight," Gino once joked.

But it certainly wasn't love at first sight as they actually spent the first few weeks arguing before sharing their first kiss in the meat fridge.

The couple got married in 2002 and have three children together (more on them later), but somewhat surprisingly for a passionate Italian chef, Gino has confessed he is not a big fans of romance.

"I don’t care about flowers or chocolates or anything like that, that’s not me," Gino told The Mirror in 2014.

"I tell you what I do. I charge her electric toothbrush, because if I don’t she’ll never do it. I make sure I always do the petrol in her car because I know she hates that, and I clean her car every week."

Gino’s life doesn’t revolve around rose petals scattered across the bedroom floor or candle-lit bubble baths and he's actually so busy with his businesses and TV career he hardly gets to spend any time with his wife.

"Jessica and I don’t really spend any time together," he revealed. "I think that’s one of the reasons we’ve lasted for 20 years. It’s a good thing, I don’t really want to know everything my wife does, because otherwise she will be boring to me."

But they definitely make time for each other and get up to some saucy antics on date nights.

Gino said: "We have very little food on date night - just something quick - and then we get on with the things people do on date nights!"

Jessica was the driving force behind Gino's decision to move permanently to the UK, which he credits with his success.

He landed a cooking segment on This Morning, then became a household name starring on I'm a Celebrity, before joining the likes of Celebrity Juice and hosting Family Fortunes.

This has allowed him to buy his family two beautiful and historic houses - one of which is a Grade II listed seven-bedroom townhouse in Hertfordshire. The other is back in his homeland on the Italian island of Sardinia, where he spends half of the year.

Gino is often surrounded by beautiful women through his TV work, but Jessica is not one to get jealous can couldn't care less.

While Gino also trusts his wife completely and admitted he would not be bothered if she met up with an ex.

Speaking to Weekend magazine in 2019, Gino gushed: "When I met my wife I realised she was an extremely generous, clever woman.

"If you try to cage men it won't work. I can do pretty much what I want. If I say, 'I'm taking friends out' she doesn't say, 'But you've been away for the past week'. There's no point having a man around if he doesn't want to be there."

Gino and Jessica are proud parents to Luciano, 19, Rocco, 16, and eight-year-old daughter Mia.

Speaking about their parenting styles in the past, Gino has admitted that he is the stricter parent of the two.

"You can see my wife look at the children, saying with her eyes 'Don't even think about it, he's not going to bend'," the star once told Woman magazine.

The family like to unwind by going to the park and the pub with the kids to eat traditional English food - and he's raised them to enjoy all sorts of cooking.

He added: "My kids are not allowed to be fussy eaters. The problem with fussy children is their stupid parents.

"I run a family kitchen and in my house we don't have options. I never had options, why should they?"

Through their ITV road trip show, Gino has become good pals with fellow chef Gordon Ramsay - and it's not just the parents who became close.

Gordon then got flustered when Tilly, who is currently starring in Strictly Come Dancing, started becoming friendly with Gino's eldest son, Luciano, leading to an awkward conversation.

In a hilarious moment during an episode of Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip, the This Morning star was video calling his son while they drove through Mexico.

Luciano revealed he was out for dinner with Tilly, so furious Gordon cried: "What the hell? Tilly! What are you doing? Matilda?"

Gordon went on to joke that Tilly could end up having Gino as a father-in-law but downplayed the speculation during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, claiming they were "just friends".

Jonathan joked that he thought Gino wasn't Luciano's father because the teenager is a "very handsome man".

Although when Jonathan asked if it was an "arranged marriage", Gordon described the situation as a "f***ing nightmare".

Gordon said: "We were driving through San Francisco and FaceTiming Luciano, and all of a sudden Tilly pops up behind them, and they are out having lunch. I think they are friends."

Born and raised in England, Gino’s children visit Sardinia every summer on holiday, but the family rarely ventures further, so they will be plunged into the real Italy and embrace their heritage in the new series.

In each episode, Gino shares his love of Italy and its food with his family - some of whom are more willing than others to get hands on in the pursuit of the finest local delicacies.

Gino said: "Food and family are everything to me and I’m so excited to take my family on a journey across Bella Italia.

"We are going to discover all sorts of amazing places, people and excellent new ingredients together. It's going to be fantastico! Look out Italy, the cooking D'Acampo's are coming!"

*Gino's Italian Family Adventure airs tonight on ITV at 8pm
