Gino D'Acampo launches new play-to-earn NFT metaverse cooking game

TV personality Gino D'Acampo has taken to Instagram to announce he is launching his very own cooking game in the metaverse.

The celebrity chef shared the news in a minute-long video on his official social media account, with the caption: “Ciao guys, it's a big day for me and my team.... Today we're proud to announce 'Gino's Big Town Chef' - our upcoming online cooking game! We are just getting started & I can't wait for you guys to see it..."

The video then opens with Gino buttoning up his chef’s jacket, putting on his iconic bandana and glasses and a chilli pepper necklace, before pointing at the camera and saying: “My name is Gino D'Acampo and welcome to Big Town Chef.”

Fans then get a glimpse of the gameplay as Gino's avatar appears on the screen complete with the bandana as he announces: “Hey - it's me!"

He goes on to describe the game as "a place where chefs from across the land come in search of fame and fortune" and tells fans all about Big Town, reports MyLondon.

He said: “Since the Great Food Fight many meals ago, Big Town has become the Mecca of food where chefs are treated like rockstars and paid like them too."

But fans were particularly keen to find out if one character would be part of the game

"Is Justin Beaver in it?" one eager fan asked, in reference to Gino's beaver pouch from his time on the TV show, Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip in their Highlands episode.

When the trio went shopping for kilts, Gino also picked up a beaver sporran that has accompanied him on his adventures ever since.

Gino explains in the clip that Big Town Chef is a "play-to-earn NFT metaverse with farming, trading and cook-off battles".

The chef also invites fans to join the game's Discord channel, where they can win an NFT that's "your ticket to the game".

More than 1,530 fans have liked the post so far and seem keen to start playing.

One replied: “This is so good!"

Another posted: "Love this."

However, one person thought it was an ad for a TV show and said: "I thought it was a new kid's TV show - I couldn't wait to watch it!"

Another fan referred to the cryptocurrency link omf NFTs and the metaverse and said: "Fun has just joined crypto."

NFT or Non-Fungible Token, which is an integral part of the game, is a non-interchangeable digital unit. They're usually photos or videos that can be sold or traded online.

And the 'non-fungible' bit just means that while you might trade one pound coin for 1.20 Euros, trading and NFT would be more like swapping the Mona Lisa for a Banksy piece. You'd still have something valuable, but it would be something completely different with a different kind of value.
