Gimmick! 2 developer Bitwave Games and publisher Clear River Games have shared the upcoming title's first gameplay trailer that shows off what fans can expect in the 8-bit platformer.

The game was originally revealed with a teaser trailer at the Limited Run Games showcase that was held earlier this year. But the new footage is the first look that the public has gotten at what Gimmick! 2 actually has in store.

Skipping the obvious graphic upgrades, the sequel seems to still be full to the brim with various platforming puzzles.

The footage showed star-chucking challenges, moving platforms, and dangerous lava pits. All of these are things that fans of the genre already expect to face in the game.

On top of that visual facelift, the sequel also features an extremely upbeat soundtrack that was created by legendary composer David Wise. The publisher of the upcoming title also shared a brief video introduction to Wise, according to NintendoLife.

The official description for Gimmick! 2 says that players will once again meet the green little yokai named Yumetaro. The sequel comes decades after the protagonist's first adventure and he is now setting out on a new journey.

The game's world is packed with interesting challenges, dangerous enemies, and hidden treasures waiting to be discovered.

Gimmick! 2 can be played in either a friendlier assisted mode or the true-to-the-original "Gimmick!" mode that offers a challenging playthrough, said Gematsu.

Providing a Challenging Playthrough

Because Yumetaro is a yokai, he has the power to summon and throw a powerful star that can bounce and keep the momentum of your character's movement.

This star can also be used to activate switches scattered in the environment, defend against enemies, and carry you to hard-to-reach places.

The first gameplay trailer for Gimmick! 2 starts off with the original 8-bit graphics of the first game, which was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System. It then promptly switches to a high-definition platformer that carries itself well on modern platforms.

Gimmick! 2 will be launching later this year and will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, according to VGChartz.
