Gigi Hadid shares 'lessons she's learnt' in first interview since Zayn Malik split

Gigi Hadid has revealed the lessons she's learnt over the last few months in her first interview since splitting with the father of her child, Zayn Malik.

With a gorgeous baby girl and tons of loved-up photos, the couple stunned fans with news of their break-up last year.

In October it was reported that the on-off pair had gone their separate ways for good after Zayn was accused of striking Gigi's mum, Yolanda.

Neither Zayn, 29, nor Gigi, 26, have addressed the split directly, but in her first interview since the separation, the model gave some words of advice following a turbulent few months.

"I've been reminded that when we get time with people, just really appreciate it and take it all in and try not to wish away moments.

"Even if there's something hard, find something beautiful in it," she told InStyle magazine.

Gigi added that she had been "too trusting" in interviews before, explaining that what she's trying to say doesn't always get 'portrayed the right way'.

"I have scaled back. But in the moments when you're face-to-face with people, you still have to be open.

"You try not to have those weird voices in your head that come from traumatic experiences," she stated.

Speaking about her daughter Khai, who was born in September 2020, Gigi admitted she was 'still learning' how to be a mum.

She also explained it wasn't a given the tot would follow her into the fashion industry, pointing out Khai may want to be "an astronaut".

Following the incident last year in which Zayn allegedly told Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda to: "Stay away from [my] f*****g daughter", the Bradford-born singer made a statement.

Taking to Twitter he wrote: "As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter [Khai] to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren't thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart.

"In an effort to protect that space for her, I agreed not to contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks."

A source at the time confirmed that Gigi and Zayn "were not together" but that they will continue to co-parent.
