Gigi Hadid has declared this contentious 2010s makeup trend back in style for 2023 at the Met Gala

While we've already seen '00s silver fashion have a renaissance amongst this year's spring fashion trends, Gigi Hadid's Met Gala makeup look just made a serious case for the 2010s silver smokey eye.

While coppers, golds and shimmery pink eyeshadows (like Charlotte Tilbury's iconic Pillow Talk shades) have been everywhere in recent years, it seems a few Y2K beauty trends are making their way back into the celebrity zeitgeist, including a few potentially contentious looks.

Yes, regardless of your 2000s style stance (don't talk to us about the return of denim maxi skirts, ok?), Gigi Hadid just proved that silver eyeshadow still deserves a place in our glam makeup routines after she rocked this starlight-esque look at the Met Gala 2023...

Gigi Hadid's Met Gala smokey eye

Brought to us by celebrity makeup artist, Patrick Ta, Gigi Hadid repped a light, ashy brown and silver smokey eye, with a dramatic, sweeping winged eyeliner, which she paired with a dreamy black, sheer dress by Givenchy—complete with a trailing, tulle train.

The model looked both edgy and ethereal and we can safely say that this is, by far, one of our favorite Gigi Hadid outfits to date!

The makeup though, is what really stole our focus. Along with a super pillowy-looking nude lip and blushed cheeks, Gigi wore a soft, diffused, brown shadow across her eyelids, buffed out to just below her brow bones. Over the top, she wore a luminous silver shimmer eyeshadow, placed in the middle of her lid and inner eye corners, finished off by a black, winged eyeliner. She also sported a sharp, inner eyeliner—creating that classic feline look.

The look is the perfect combo of nostalgic and modern, with the smokey and silver shadow giving 2010s merging with the current inner eyeliner trend.

How to recreate Gigi Hadid's Met Gala makeup look

So, if you've perhaps been inspired by Gigi's silvery makeup (much like we were with Gigi's perfume layering hack), we've sussed out the exact products used to create her look...

Naturally, as Maybelline's brand ambassador, Gigi wore products from the brand, specifically the Color Tattoo shadow in 'Chill Girl' and the brown and nude hues from The Nudes of New York palette.
