'Giggly' baby girl with the 'strength of a lion' dies after infection

A toddler who was the "most amazing little girl" has died surrounded by her loved ones after spending many months in and out of hospital.

Freya-Louise Davies, two, was born on October 15, 2020 when mum Chloe Marsh was 30-weeks pregnant. But she was soon diagnosed with a hiatus hernia, meaning her stomach was "next to her heart".

For the next few months, young Freya-Louise was in and out of hospital as she struggled to gain weight, was on total parenteral nutrition (TPN), was peg fed and required oxygen 24/7. Throughout her life, she spent around 22-months in hospital, as mum Chloe, 22, described her as an "amazing little girl."

But around a month ago, Freya-Louise, from Huyton, was admitted into Alder Hey Children's Hospital following an infection. Just two weeks later, she deteriorated and was rushed into the intensive care unit.

For the first 18-months, Freya-Louise remained in hospital before spending a week at home until she was back in again. Nan Ceri White told the ECHO: "She'd be back home for a week if we were lucky, then she'd be back in hospital.

"We got her home for about five weeks but then she was admitted into hospital with a chest infection. She was just getting over that when she was rushed to ICU with that flu that's going around and her body just wasn't strong enough."

Tragically, the 22-month-old died today on April 1 surrounded by her loved ones at Alder Hey. The heart-broken family has launched a fundraiser in the hopes of giving her the funeral she deserves.

Writing on the fundraiser, Chloe said: "So I am Freya’s mummy and I’m hoping to raise some money to help me with the cost of her funeral as it was so unexpected and I want to give her the best send off she possibly can have. I lost her brother in 2018 and he had the best send off so I’d love to do the same for my baby girl.

"Freya was known by absolutely everyone from Alder Hey to Zoe’s place to Liverpool Women’s and more, she was the most special little girl you could ever meet. She had the strength and courage of a lion and she fought to the very, very end. She was such a giggly baby girl she loved playing and watching Bing and more."

It is hoped Freya-Louise's funeral would be a "gorgeous send off" including a horse and carriage. Any money left over will be donated towards a cuddle cot in her memory."
