Gigantic, the MOBA/hero shooter hybrid, has made a surprising comeback after being resurrected by Gearbox Publishing. Originally shut down six years ago, the free-to-play title is now returning for good, with Abstraction Games taking over development of Gigantic: Rampage Edition. The game is set to release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on April 9, featuring full cross-play support.
Unlike its previous iteration, the new Gigantic is a $20 premium game with no microtransactions. Players can unlock all content through in-game progression and currency. The objective remains the same - team up with four others to defeat an enemy guardian while protecting your own. Heroes are customizable, with defensive and offensive capabilities, as well as powerful ultimates.
The game includes all original content, with additional features and two new heroes - Roland and Kajir. Two new maps, Picaro Bay and Heaven's Ward, offer diverse gameplay experiences. Post-launch plans include a Ranked mode, free hero skins, and a new Rush mode for faster-paced action.
Christopher Chung, co-creator of Gigantic, expressed excitement about the game's return and praised the additions made by Gearbox Publishing and Abstraction Games. A closed beta test on Steam is scheduled for later this week, allowing players to experience the game before its official release.
Gigantic's revival comes at a time when live-service games face challenges in sustaining player bases. With the reimagined Gigantic entering a competitive market, its success remains to be seen. Fans and newcomers alike are eager to explore the vibrant world of Gigantic: Rampage Edition and engage in thrilling battles with its diverse cast of heroes.
