Giants’ Xavier McKinney signs off on aggressive defensive approach

The New York Giants have seen nearly their entire front office and coaching staff change over the last several months. The changes were a long time coming and necessary for the organization to move forward.

So far, the Giants have seen a lot of positivity, and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale has earned the backing of his defense.

Giants safety Xavier McKinney thinks Martindale’s desire to control the narrative lines up with the defense’s mentality to force the offense to make mistakes:

“Yeah, like I said, we love it because ultimately as a defense, that’s what we want to do. We want to make the offense make mistakes, not us wait for them to make mistakes, so we want them to make a mistake off of what we do and how we bring that aggression towards them,” McKinney told reporters on Thursday.

McKinney also indicated that while they miss guys like James Bradberry, the DB room is building new chemistry and creating a new bond that will solidify their unit.

As one of the more tenured defensive backs, McKinney is ready to do whatever it takes to help the defense succeed.

“Trying to make sure whatever it is I need to do to help this team win games and help us play great defense, that’s what I’m willing to do and that’s what I’m going to do,” he said.

That’s the kind of attitude that this roster needs to have, and it seems that more players are gearing up to start a new era in Giants football.
