The New York Giants ended their first-game losing streak as they defeated the Tennessee Titans in Nashville on Sunday.
The 21-20 victory puts the Giants at 1-0 to start the regular season and first in the NFC East.
After going down 13-0, Big Blue fought back and tied up the game at 13 with big plays from Sterling Shepard and Saquon Barkley. New York was able to take the lead with just over a minute left but their defense fell short in the final seconds. However, the Giants were able to prevail as a Randy Bullock field goal miss ended the Titans’ comeback hopes.
Barkley was by far the best player for the Giants on Sunday as he carried the offense on his back.
Barkley has been riddled with injuries over the past few years as he has missed 18 of his last 33 games with a plethora of lower-body injuries. After an unprecedented start to his career where he totaled 2,028 scrimmage yards and 15 total touchdowns in his rookie season, Barkley has not been the same. The Penn State alum totaled only 2,391 scrimmage yards and 12 total touchdowns over the next three years.
However, Barkley proved all of his doubters wrong in Week 1. The former Nittany Lion had 164 rushing yards on 18 carries including one touchdown. He added 30 yards and six receptions as a pass catcher doing it all for the Giants.
The running back also single-handily fought for a two-point conversion that put the Giants over the edge to win the game.
Barkley will have a chance to improve on his stellar performance at home against the Panthers next week.
