Giants vs. Eagles: Week 18 staff picks and predictions

The New York Giants (5-11) will take on the Philadelphia Eagles (11-5) this Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium in their final game of the 2023 regular season.

Opening the week, the Giants were 5.5-point home underdogs and that’s where the spread remains as of this writing.

How does the Giants Wire staff see this Week 18 battle shaking out? Here’s a look at our picks and score predictions:

I’d love to believe the Giants finally get the monkey off their back and take down the Eagles while filling the role of semi-spoiler but even with some key Philly injuries, it’s hard to envision. The Eagles have owned the Giants for such a long time that it’s become engrained in the DNA of both teams. Ultimately, the Giants keep it very close but once again fall, ending the season on a sour note.

Philly has been fading, losing four of their last five, and even though there is a path for them to win the division still, may opt to sit some ailing players. Expect the Giants to go full throttle in this one and finally get a win in this series

Although it may be a slim one, with the Eagles having a chance at the division crown, I believe they are going to bring it on Sunday. They are the far superior team despite their recent struggles and I think those recent struggles will give them some extra motivation in this game to gain some momentum going into the playoffs.

The Giants have not given up and have shown fight all season. I expect that to continue on Sunday.

I think this game is likely closer throughout than the first matchup was between the two teams, especially with Tyrod Taylor under center.

Ultimately, I think the Giants fall short again adding another loss to this very disappointing season.

If the Eagles weren’t fighting for the top spot in the division, this might play out differently. Brian Daboll has gotten the Giants to continue fighting despite being eliminated from playoff contention, which is inspiring. But the Eagles are the better team here and they have much more to fight for.

Jeevan Kirkland: Eagles 27, Giants 23

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

In the last game of the season, the Giants keep this one close at home. This will likely be the last game as a Giant for many household names in the Giants community like Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard. They will also be fighting hard to play as a spoiler to the Eagles’ season. However, the Eagles simply are too talented for the Giants and should be able to pull this one out in the end. They can dominate the trenches which is something that New York lacks heavily and will likely be the difference in this one.

The Giants get to close out their season at home and have nothing but pride to play for. The Eagles need to pick up momentum for their playoff run. Both teams need a win and the Giants have an opportunity to derail the Eagles’ bye-week hopes.

The Giants’ season was marred by injuries galore — we saw three different starting quarterbacks, a variety of OL changes, three placekickers, and lost Leonard Williams in a trade. It’s been a ride, for sure, and as the season comes to a close, I don’t expect the Giants to do anything differently than they have all season. The season ends on a downer.
