The New York Giants will wrap up the regular season on Sunday against their division rival Philadelphia Eagles. With the two teams going in opposite directions, there are implications for both organizations depending on the result of the Week 18 matchup.
Both teams have struggled recently with the Giants losing their last three games, including one to Philadelphia just two short weeks ago.
While the Giants would love to play spoiler against the Eagles in their final game of the season, many will be paying attention to the Giants’ draft stock.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have lost four of their last five and hope to stop the bleeding on Sunday to go into the postseason with some momentum.
Here are three reasons for optimism ahead of the regular season finale.
A full game of Tyrod Taylor
When quarterback Tyrod Taylor was put in the game at halftime two weeks ago against the Eagles, head coach Brian Daboll was hoping to spark the Giants.
Taylor brought the Giants back in the second half and many believe they could have won the game if the veteran had started.
On Sunday, Taylor has the opportunity to end a long-standing curse against Philly.
Eagles are collapsing
The Eagles have not played well in the final third of the season, losing four of their last five and there are rumors that they may rest some starters in the regular season finale.
The Eagles can still take the division with a win and a Washington Commanders victory over the Dallas Cowboys. However, the Cowboys are very likely to win their matchup against Washington.
Something has been off with the Eagles for the past six weeks and the Giants have a much better chance of winning this one than they did if they played the Eagles following their 10-1 start after the first 11 games.
The turnover battle
The Giants’ three-game winning streak came to an end a few weeks ago because they were not able to force any turnovers against the New Orleans Saints.
The Giants did, however, force two turnovers against the Eagles in Week 16, followed by a matchup against the Rams where they had three takeaways.
If the Eagles play their starters and the Giants are able to deliver a win on Sunday, winning the turnover battle will be a major reason why.
