The New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Sunday Night Football to open the 2023 NFL regular season.
Here are five things to know before the Week 1 clash.
A familiar matchup
The Giants and Cowboys meet for the 15th time on a Sunday night, tied for the most frequent Sunday Night Football matchup along with Cowboys-Eagles (15 times).
The last time the Giants opened a season on Sunday Night Football was in 2017 at Dallas, a 20-16 Cowboys victory at AT&T Stadium.
The Cowboys hold a 7-6 advantage over the Giants at MetLife Stadium, which opened in 2010.
The Giants have faced the Cowboys in MetLife Stadium three times on a Sunday Night, winning twice. The last time was in 2016 with the Giants on top, 10-7.
The series
Sunday night marks the 123rd meeting between the Giants and Cowboys since Dallas entered the league in 1960.
The Cowboys lead the regular season series with a 73-46-2 record. The Giants won the only postseason game between the two teams back in 2008.
The Giants are 26-33-1 versus Dallas at home and 20-40-1 on the road.
Dallas has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with the Giants, including the last four.
Daniel Jones versus Dallas
Giants fifth-year quarterback Daniel Jones has struggled against the Cowboys since entering the league in 2019.
Jones is 5-1-1 against Washington, 2-3 versus Philadelphia but only 1-6 against Dallas thus far in his career.
In his seven games against Dallas, Jones has completed 112 of 188 passes (59.6 percent) for 1,200 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions for a 78.8 QB rating.
Jones has rushed for 171 yards on 33 attempts — a 5.1 average and has been sacked 17 times.
Dak Prescott versus the Giants
Dak Prescott has a 10-2 record in his 12 starts against Big Blue.
He has thrown for more yards (3,147) and touchdowns (23) against the Giants than any other NFL team.
Prescott has a 99.1 QB rating against New York.
New faces in the matchup
The Giants have added quite a few new faces since they last played the Cowboys such as tight end Darren Waller, linebacker Bobby Okereke, wide receivers Parris Campbell and Jalin Hyatt, center John Michael Schmitz and cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Tre Hawkins III.
For Dallas, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, cornerback Stephon Gilmore, quarterback Trey Lance, offensive lineman Chuma Edoga, defensive tackle Mazi Smith and tight end Luke Schoonmaker are all making their Cowboys debut on Sunday night at MetLife.
