New York Giants tight end Tommy Sweeney was carted off the practice field on Wednesday after receiving significant medical attention.
Sweeney was working on a side field with rehabbing players when the incident occurred. Both general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll went over to Sweeney and stayed with him until he was put on a cart, shirtless, and sent back to the locker room.
It’s unclear exactly what happened to Sweeney but Dan Duggan of The Athletic and ESPN’s Jordan Raanan described the scene as “scary.”

Charlotte Carroll, also of The Athletic, posted a video of Sweeney leaving the field on a cart but has since deleted her post.
For Sweeney, it was his first day back on the field after several were spent inside.
The 28-year-old Sweeney, a Ramsey native, signed with the Giants on a one-year, $1.1 million contract in free agency. He had spent the previous four years with the Buffalo Bills, where he was a seventh-round pick in 2019 and grew familiar with both Schoen and Daboll before they were hired by the Giants.
Sweeney is in a competition with Lawrence Cager, Ryan Jones and Chris Myarick for the team’s third tight end spot.
