Giants star Coniglio ready for Bulldogs confrontation

Star GWS midfielder Stephen Coniglio is over his shoulder issue and ready to cop whatever special attention he gets from the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

The Giants vice-captain wasted no time in recapturing his old form on his return against Fremantle last round, racking up 24 touches, 14 contested possessions and seven clearances.

Coniglio has been managing the injury since dislocating his right shoulder in their round-11 win over Geelong.

He returned to play in round 16 before being sidelined three weeks later with soreness.

With the Bulldogs all but certain to bring the heat as they fight to secure their own finals path, the midfield bull won't be shirking from the contest.

"Bring it on," he said on Tuesday.

"I feel great. I've had four weeks of just rehabbing, getting it strong so I feel really good.

"If I didn't, I wouldn't be playing."

The meeting at Ballarat's Mars Stadium will be the latest chapter of their modern-day rivalry, although Coniglio says the feud has moved on since the Bulldogs denied the Giants a grand-final berth before going on to take the flag in 2016.

Iconic chapters of the rivalry include Toby Greene copping a $7500 fine for making contact with Marcus Bontempelli's face in 2019 and the league handing out fines to 15 players for engaging in constant melees in a spiteful 2020 match.

"Let me say, it's a bit different to what it was in maybe 2016, '17," Coniglio said.

"For the group at the moment, and what's ahead of us this week, let alone another final series that we secured on the weekend, it's just going to be great to play against them.

"There's an important game this week and then an important month for us after."

Sitting out on their round-22 clash against Brisbane, ruck Kieren Briggs is battling his own shoulder complaint but he has no intentions of missing any further action.

"Most of the competition, guys are hurting at this time of the year so it's about who can stand up and be the most resilient," Briggs said on Tuesday.

"I just got to suck it up."
