Giants sign WR Marcus Johnson to practice squad

The New York Giants will continue tinkering with their roster and practice squad on Tuesday, adding veteran wide receiver Marcus Johnson to the reserve unit.

Johnson will earn the veteran max deal for practice squad players.

The 28-year-old Johnson originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in 2016. At the time, current Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown was serving as their assistant director of pro scouting.

After two seasons in Philly, Johnson made stints with the Seattle Seahawks (2018), Indianapolis Colts (2018-2020), Tennessee Titans (2020-2021) and, most recently, the San Francisco 49ers (2022).

While with the Eagles and Colts, Johnson also spent time with current Giants wide receivers coach Mike Groh.

In 41 career games (12 starts), Johnson has hauled in 51 receptions for 839 yards and three touchdowns. He also has experience returning kickoffs (11 for 216 yards).

In order to clear room for Johnson, the Giants released wide receiver C.J. Board from the practice squad.
