Giants signing veteran CB Tre Herndon

After a series of tryouts on Tuesday, the New York Giants have decided to sign veteran cornerback Tre Herndon.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, citing Herndon’s representation, was the first to report the news.

Herndon, 28, originally signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2018. He went on to appear in 83 games (34 starts), recording 243 tackles (186 solo, nine for a loss), two forced fumbles, six QB hits, one sack, 32 passes defensed, and three interceptions.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Herndon had his best season in 2019 when he recorded a career-high 55 tackles, 13 passes defensed, and three interceptions.

In 2023, Herndon recorded an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 70.8, a pass rush grade of 87.0, and a coverage grade of 73.1.

Herndon joins a cornerback room that includes Deonte Banks, Cor’Dale Flott, Nick McCloud, Darnay Holmes, Tre Hawkins, Aaron Robinson, rookie Andru Phillips, and others.

With the signing of Herdon, the Giants now have 91 men on their roster (kicker Jude McAtamney on a roster exemption). The spot was previously vacated by tight end Darren Waller after announcing his NFL retirement.
