The New York Giants will soon place kicker Graham Gano on injured reserve (IR) and he will undergo surgery to repair his left knee.
Gano has been kicking on the balky knee for several weeks and missed two field goals against the New York Jets in a 13-10 overtime loss last Sunday, including the potential game-dealer with seconds remaining.
Although Gano refused to offer up any excuses after the game, it’s clear that he’s been struggling.
Head coach Brian Daboll initially defended his decision to put Gano in that situation, arguing that his kicker was “all right.” It was just one of many questionable personnel decisions the Giants have employed this season (and last).
On Thursday, with the knowledge that Gano was headed for surgery, the Giants worked out a handful of kickers, including ex-mate Robbie Gould.
The Giants will work out some veteran kickers today.

Following the workouts, the Giants agreed to sign Randy Bullock to their practice squad pending a physical, reports USA TODAY’s Art Stapleton.
The 33-year-old Bullock was selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL draft. He’s also spent time with the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions and, most recently, Tennessee Titans.
In 2016, Bullock spent one game with the Giants, kicking in place of the suspended Josh Brown.
Throughout his career, Bullock has connected on 83.4% of his field goal attempts and 95.6% of his PAT attempts.
Once Gano officially lands on IR, Bullock will likely be signed from the practice squad to the active roster.
