Giants signing Dexter Lawrence to massive contract extension

The New York Giants are signing nose tackle Dexter Lawrence to a contract extension that makes him one of the highest-paid defensive linemen in the NFL.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports the new deal is for four years and is worth $90 million with $60 million guaranteed.

Lawrence’s new deal comes in just under Jeffery Simmons, who inked a four-year, $94 million extension with the Tennessee Titans earlier this year. His deal also included $66 million guaranteed.

With a $22.5 million AAV, Lawrence is tied for third among defensive linemen behind the aforementioned Simmons and Los Angeles Rams superstar Aaron Donald, who earns a $31.6 million AAV. Lawrence is tied with Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne.

After a career season in 2022, Lawrence earned a trip to the Pro Bowl Games and was named a Second-Team All-Pro for the first time.

When addressing Lawrence early last season, defensive coordinator Wink Martindale likened the nose tackle to a “Rolls-Royce.”

Lawrence had been skipping the team’s voluntary offseason workouts while his contract was negotiations but is now expected to return to East Rutherford.

Considering the high expectations for Lawrence’s contract, general manager Joe Schoen actually got a good deal at four years and $90 million.
