Giants select Jordon Riley: 3 things to know

The New York Giants selected Oregon defensive tackle Jordon Riley with the 243rd pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft on Saturday in Kansas City.

Here are three things to know about the newest member of the Giants.

Multiple college careers

Riley, a native of New Bern, North Carolina began his college career at North Carolina before moving on to Garden City Community College in 2019 and then on to Nebraska in 2020. He played in 10 games for the Cornhuskers in 2021 and was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.

At Oregon last year, Riley started all 13 games for the Ducks finishing with 21 total tackles (seven solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, and one pass defensed. He had at least one tackle in 12 of 13 games with six multi-tackle performances.

Tale of the tape

At his pro day last month, Riley was measured at 6-foot-5 and 338 pounds. There is no record the Giants meeting with him.

Riley ran the 40-yard dash in 5.28 seconds.

Why draft him?

There isn’t a lot of scouting data on Riley. In fact, NFL.com did not even have him on their database until the Giants took him.

Many believe the Giants didn’t need to use a draft pick on him and that they could have gotten him as a free agent after the draft.
