Giants select Jaxon Smith-Njigba in Draft Wire’s post-Super Bowl mock

The New York Giants hold the 25th overall selection in the 2023 NFL draft. What will they do with that pick?

The Giants began a rebuilding process last year under rookie general manager Joe Schoen which they plan to take to the next stage this spring.

They still have many holes and many areas of need this offseason and could go in many directions in this draft.

In a recent mock draft from Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling, the Giants address a glaring need by selecting Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the 25th overall pick.

Smith-Njigba, who will be 21 on February 14, stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in at a shred under 200 pounds. The junior from Dallas, Texas was limited to just three games this past season in Columbus due to a hamstring injury but was coming off a stellar sophomore campaign where he was named the most valuable offensive player in the 2022 Rose Bowl.

In that game, Smith-Njigba tallied 15 receptions for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the Buckeyes’ 48-45 victory over Utah.

Other than that, his recent tape is limited and his draft status will likely be determined by how well he fares at the NFL Combine as well as in pro days and private workouts.

Wide receiver is certainly an area of need for the Giants. Their depth chart is very thin, and will be even thinner should they choose not to re-sign Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton.
