The New York Giants were blown out once again by the Dallas Cowboys, 49-17, this time in AT&T Stadium.
The season is all but over for Big Blue as they fall to 2-8 remaining last in the NFC East. The silver lining is that the team currently owns the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
After Sunday’s performance fans only have the sweepstakes for a new quarterback to look forward to as the team looks hopeless currently.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this loss.
Offense: D
The offense was once again stagnant.
The day was salvaged by 10 fourth-quarter points in garbage time. However, the fact that the team scored zero first-half points for the fourth time this season demonstrates how in shambles this offense is.
The team totaled 172 yards on the day and converted on no third downs (on 12 attempts). Their inability to extend drives is lethal and gives the team no chance to win. The same problems continue with this offense as Tommy DeVito was hit seven times and sacked five times. Behind this offensive line, it makes it practically impossible to have a successful offense, especially with an undrafted rookie free agent.
The highlight of this offense was Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 66 yards averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Unfortunately for Barkley, he was unable to punch in any touchdowns or convert on any third downs as the offensive line could not dig deep when it mattered. The only other positive is that the offense only had one turnover which was less than expected.
Defense: F
Despite forcing two turnovers and a turnover on downs in the red zone, one on Dak Prescott, this defense gets a huge failing grade for allowing 49 points.
Dallas was able to hang 640 yards of offense on the Giants. Yes, that is not a typo. 640 yards. It felt like no one wanted to play defense on Sunday as Dallas was able to average 8.3 yards per play. Prescott alone had 404 yards and four touchdowns as he knifed through the Giants’ secondary. It also helps when there is virtually no pass rush as Dallas quarterbacks were sacked zero times.
One would think with such an awful pass defense the run defense would be better but this was not the case as the Cowboys rushed for 168 yards, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. This defense lacks spirit and talent and it does not look like either is changing any time soon.
Special Teams: B-
The special teams unit did their job on Sunday.
Randy Bullock made his sole field goal attempt and nailed his one extra-point attempt.
Jamie Gillan has quite the active day as he punted seven times for 350 yards and landed two inside of the 20-yard line.
Finally, Parris Campbell added one kick return for 36 yards before halftime.
Coaching: D-
It’s hard to coach this team with all of the injuries but it’s clear as day that Brian Daboll is struggling in his sophomore year. He brought life to this team in Year 1 but none of that is here in Year 2. This team came out flat to start the game and out of halftime. For being an offensive guru, Daboll seems to be putting forward some of the most inept offenses in history on a week-by-week basis.
As for his coordinators, Mike Kafka has an uphill battle with DeVito and a makeshift offensive line. However, his playcalling is abysmal, and converting on zero of 12 third downs is unacceptable from a coaching standpoint.
On the defensive side of the ball, all things seemed to go wrong on Sunday and that starts with Wink Martindale. He was brought in to be an aggressive defensive coordinator who pressures the quarterback but that is far from the case with Big Blue. Every game it seems that the Giants are incapable of generating pressure and this was evident again in Week 10.
