Giants releasing veteran safety Jalen Mills

On Wednesday, the New York Giants signed safeties Raheem Layne and Jonathan Sutherland. In a corresponding roster move, the team released veteran Jalin Mills, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Mills opened training camp on the non-football injury (NFI) list with a calf injury.

Mills, 30, was a seventh-round pick of the Eagles out of LSU (No. 233 overall) back in 2016. He played five seasons in Philly before moving on to New England as a free agent in 2021 where he played the next three seasons.

Mills has played in 106 NFL regular season games with 83 starts and in four postseason games. He’s recorded 406 tackles (314 solo, 9 for a loss), 53 passes defensed, seven interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

As Schefter notes, Mills is not expected to remain a free agent long.
